ABOUT
Who is Janae?
Janae began sewing at 7 years old. She also learned woodworking, painting, drawing, and numerous other creative arts as she grew up. She began creating clothing as a teenager, costumed and designed sets for multiple high school theater productions, altered and created countless gowns and formals through college, and eventually earned a BFA in Industrial Design.
Her career has spanned industries and roles, including designing electronics, designing and creating artisan furniture and home goods, starting up a cut and sew factory, leading product development teams, directing product management, and more. She is passionate about empowering people through solving design challenges, especially with textile goods.
Janae Pettit Design is the culmination of her professional experience and fulfilling a career goal she has had since college.
Why fabric goods & apparel?
While she has experience with electronics, plastics, lumber, graphic design, and other materials and industries, she is naturally most drawn to textiles. She is always expanding her knowledge of fabrication processes, fiber characteristics, fabric constructions and behaviors, manufacturability, and unique methods for couture apparel, costumes, and other soft goods products. She is constantly pushing the boundaries of what can and cannot be done in the realm of fabric and sewing.
Some people call it a lifelong hyper-fixation.
She just calls it her passion and career.
How big is Janae Pettit Design?
This consultancy is fairly new, so it is currently small with big plans to grow.
It consists of Janae (obviously), her husband as a sounding board for brainstorms and business ideas, her accountant to keep finances straight, and her professional network for specialized subcontracting needs (like sewing factories, supply chain experts, other specialized industrial designers, and other very talented people).
Can I take Janae seriously? (Just look at her ridiculous hair.)
Absolutely. It is not uncommon for creative professionals to also get creative in their appearance.
Her personal style makes her memorable. Her personality is kind, honest, light-hearted, and caring. Her professionalism is transparent, thorough, organized, highly communicative, always seeking to over-deliver, with a priority to provide deliverables on time. She is relatable, inclusive, highly collaborative, and her focus is on her client's own needs and successes.
